Afterwards drive overland, in 4-WD jeeps, across the Tibetan highlands and high passes to the fabled Rongphu Monastery and Mt. Rongbuk Monastery is a good place for overlooking Mt. Everest. It’s only 25 kilometers straightaway from the Everest Peak. Detail itinerary of Tibet Overland With EBC

  • DAY 01

    KATHMANDU / NYALAM-3750m (BREAKFAST)

    Departure at 5:30 hr. from Sahara Holidays Nepal Treks Pvt. Ltd, Thamel. After an approx. 6 hours drive we reach Kodari (China /Nepal Boarder). Further half hr. drive by truck will bring us to Zhangmu. Zhangmu (2300 metres) is remarkable town that hugs the rim of a seemingly no ending succession of hairpin bends down the customs area at the border of China. After the completion of Immigration formalities all check drive to Nyalam. Nyalam (3750 metres) is a funky little town around 30 km before the Nepal border. It has been steadily growing in size and facilities have been improving over the last few years. This no doubt due to burgeoning trade opportunities with near by Nepal. O/N in Nyalam.

  • DAY 02

    NYALAM / XEGAR-4200m (BREAKFAST)

    From the road follows the Bhote Koshi River in a deep valley with plenty of waterfalls. After 1.5 hr. drive bring us to Nyalam pass (3800m) with the Jugal Himal in view. A continued drive via Lalung La (5050m) will bring us in view of Mt. Langtang (7245m) , Mt. Sisap. Shishapangma (8013m), Mt. Dorje Lakpa (6980m) , Mt. Makalu (8464m), Mt. Everest (8848m), Mt. Lhotse (8516m), & Mt. Cho Oyu (8201m). O/N in Xegar.

  • DAY 03

    XEGAR / RONGBUCK-4980m (BREAKFAST)

    From Shegar The Everest access road turns off the Friendship Highway around five km west of Shegar check point shortly after km market 494, from which point it winds and climbs its way 63 km to Rongbuk Monastery and on to base camp. Although there were probably monastic settlements in the area for several hundred years, Rongbuk Monastery is fairly recent. It was established in 1902 by a Nyingmapa Lama. Perhaps not of great antiquity, it can at least lay claim to being the highest monastery in Tibet and thus the world, at 4980 meters. There were once 500 monks and nums living here but local reports that the number is now only 16. Accommodation and very basic food are available at the monastery. The rooms are comfortable, heated with stoves. O/N in Rongbuk.

  • DAY 04

    RONGBUCK / EBC / XEGAR-4200m (BREAKFAST)

    Drive to Everest Base Camp from Rongbuck Monastery. The base camp is a dry, barren place, but the views of Everest more than make up for this. Have a photo taken a the base camp marker which disappointingly does not even mention the world Everest. It reads Mt Qomolangma Base Camp and the Chinese below in indicates 5200 metres above the sea level. On a small hill to the left of the base camp marker are a couple of prayer poles. Clamber up for great views of the world's highest peak. After visit to Everest Base Camp drive to Xegar. O/N in Xegar.

  • DAY 05

    XEGAR / XIGATSE-3900m (BREAKFAST)

    After breakfast drive to Xigatse. Depending upon the road conditions will be visit Sakya Monastery. Sakya is one of the oldest and most important monastery. Reach Xigatse, the place of the famous Tashilumpo Monastery the seat of Panchen Lama until his death in 1989 with its huge Thanka Wall cleary visible on north side of the road. O/N in Xigatse.

  • DAY 06

    XIGATSE / GYANTSE-3950m (BREAKFAST)

    After visiting Tashilunpo Monastery in the morning including the Bazaar of Xigatse, drive to Gyantse which is 02 hr. Gyantse is small bustling town steeped in history. It lies 264 km. Southwest of Lhasa on the northern bank of Nyang Chu River. In the 15th Century it served as the Capital of a small Kingdom. Visit Kumbum Chorten & Phklkor Monastery which was built around 1400 AD It later became the main centre for trade with British India. O/N in Gyantse.

  • DAY 07

    GYANTSE / LHASA-3650m (BREAKFAST)

    08 hr. drive takes you to Lhasa crossing the Karola Pass (5010m) and Kambala Pass (4794m.). The Karola climbs between two lofty mountains, Nozing Khang Sa (7223m) and Ralung (6236m). While driving you will see the Yamdrok Tso (Truquoise Lake) which takes approx. 1 hour to cross around. After passing Kambala, Lhasa Valley is seen to the north. You will also cross the Brahmaputra River. Reaching Lhasa and check in hotel. The accompanied guide will reconfirm your onward airline ticket. O/N in Lhasa.

  • DAY 08-09

    LHASA CITY TOUR (BREAKFAT)

    These days you will be engrossed with sightseeing and excursions of the Potala Palace, the Jokhang Temple surrounding Barkhor Market, Drepung Monastery and Sera Monastery. O/N in Lhasa.

  • DAY 10

    LHASA KATHMANDU (BREAKFAST)

    Transfer to airport with our representative. Departure of flight for Kathmandu would be approx. 10 AM China standard time and arriving in Kathmandu at 09 AM Nepal standard time. It takes 1 hr. 10 minutes flight from Lhasa to Kathmandu. During the flight you will see the following: Yarlung Tsangpo River, Lake Yamdrok, Mt. Kanchenjunga (8586m), Mt. Makalu (8463m) and Mt. Everest. (Weather Permitting).

Dear Gopal thnaks very much for all your organization, we had no problem in our trip to lhasa. the guide was very very exellent, always ready to make us happy and comfortable. the guide was a very good knowledge off the history of each temple and each monastery and places. they changed the hotel, but the result was really incredible because the new one was in the center and very clean. more than what we were expecting, it was like a 4 stars in Europe. really in reccomanded you and your organization. hoping to see you again for a new adventure.
