Trip Overview of Langtang Excursions

Langtang Excursions: Langtang is a region in Nepal to the north of Kathmandu and bordering Tibet. It is protected as Langtang National Park and has a number of high peaks including Langtang Lirung (7246m). As of 2010, the entrance ticket to the park cost 2400 Nepali Rupees for foreigners. About 4,500 people live inside the park, and many more depend on it for timber and firewood.

The majority of the residents are Tamang. The park contains a wide variety of climatic zones, from subtropical to alpine. Approximately 25% of the park is forested. Trees include the deciduous Oak and Maple, and evergreens like Pine, and various types of Rhododendron. Animal life includes Himalayan black bear, the goat-like Himalayan tahr, Rhesus monkeys and Red Pandas. There are also stories of Yeti sightings. The park contains the Gosainkunda lakes, sacred to Hindus.

  • DAY 1

    ARRIVE IN KATHMANDU

    When you arrive in Kathmandu, you'll be taken to your hotel. While in Kathmandu you will have time fascinating Buddhist and Hindu temples and shrines reflecting ancient local traditions are highlighted on our guided tour. There's time to explore the city's many charms on your own too. In the evening delicious traditional Nepali well come dinner await for you. O/N in Kathmandu. (Welcome-Dinner)

  • DAY 2

    KATHMANDU CITY TOUR

    After breakfast, we'll visit Swoyambhunath temple, and said to be 2000 years stupa on a hillock offers breath-taking view of Kathmandu City. We will then processed to Visit Pasupatinath and Bouddhanath. After lunch we'll visit Kathmandu Durbar Square, Patan (Lalitpur) - which is the oldest of the three major cities in Kathmandu Valley - famous for its Buddhist monuments and Hindu temples, and you can catch the traditional artisans working with wood, stones and metals.   • DAY 3

    KATHMANDU / DHUNCE

    This morning you will be drive to Dhunche, departure early in the morning, approximately 7 hrs away by bus. You see along the drive good scenery. You will be arriving in Dhunce at later afternoon. Dhunce is a head quarter of Rasuwa district where you�ll start to Langtang Trekking. In the evening you will prepare yourself for your trek to Langtang. O/N in Dhunche at Teahouse Lodge or Tented Camp. (B/L/D)

  • DAY 4

    DHUNCHE / BHARKU / SYABRUBESI

    From Dhunche there is a decent to the Trisuli River that is reached within half an hour. From the river bed there is a steep climb to Dovan. Right from here a track to Gosainkunda leaves the main trail to Rasuwa Ghari and the Langtang valley. From Dovan there is a gentle climb to 6,400 feet and Bharku village is reached. From Bharku, traversing up and down after crossing a suspension bridge over the Langtang River, the village of Syabrubensi is reached. O/N in Syabrybesi at Teahouse Lodge or Tented Camp. (B/L/D)

  • DAY 5

    SYABRUBESI / KHANJUNG / SYARPAGAON

    After a trek of about one hour from Syabrubensi the small village of Wangal is reached. From here a trail branches off straight eastwards to Rasuwa Ghari. From Wangal there is a steep climb to Khanjung village. In the village there is a good camping site. From there, after 1/2hr climb a small village is reached, known as Surka. The climb is steep for an hour through thick forest and from there the trail continues straight but not steep. From here, after a gentle descent for nearly 3hrs, Syarpagoan (8200ft.) is reached.   • DAY 6

    SYARPAGAON / LAMAHOTEL / LANGTANG VALLEY

    From Syarpagoan, the trail then traverses up and down through the forest and Ghoratabela (9800 ft.) is reached within 5 hrs. From there, again a short climb for 1/2 hrs will bring you to a pass to the right of where the Langtang valley begins. O/N in Langtang Valley at Teahouse Lodge or Tented Camp. (B/L/D)

  • DAY 7

    LANGTANG VALLEY / KYANGJING GOMPA

    From the pass, after trekking for nearly 3 hrs, Langtang village (11200 ft.) is reached. From Langtang there is a gentle ascent for 4 hrs to Kyangjing Gompa. O/N in Kyangjing Gompa at Teahouse Lodge or Tented Camp. (B/L/D)

  • DAY 8

    KYANGJING GOMPA / YALACHEESE FACTORY / GHORA TABALA

    After visiting Kyangjing Monastery, an excellent lookout can be reached by climbing the slopes immediately behind the Kyangjing Gompa. A visit to Yala Cheese factory (15,800 ft.) and the small lake at 16,000 ft. beyond Yala is worthwhile. Then back to Langtang via same route. O/N in Ghora Tabala at Teahouse Lodge or Tented Camp.   • DAY 9

    GHORA TABALA / SYABRUGAON

    Breakfast served in the morning. After breakfast trek back through same way to Syabrugaon. O/N in Syabrugaon at Teahouse Lodge or Tented Camp. (B/L/D)

  • DAY 10

    SYABRU / SING GOMPA (3254m)

    Today we climb through forests of Fir and Rhododendron. The only sign of human habitation are the occasional shepherds' huts at the water points. We camp near the deserted Sing Gompa. O/N in Sing Gompa at Teahouse Lodge or Tented Camp. (B/L/D)

  • DAY 11

    SING GOMPA / GOSAINKUNDA (4300m)

    A steep, rugged trail but adequately compensated for by dramatic views; to the west Himal Chuli (7893m), Manaslu (8156m.), and Ganesh Himal (7406m.) and possibly even the Annapurna range. To the north across the valley is Langtang Lirug. We pass a few huts in the high pasture of Laurebina, cross a small ridge and have our first views of the holy lakes. There are about a dozen lakes in the Gosainkunda Basin, the main three being Saraswatikund Bhariab Kunda and Gosainkunda. According to legend, Shiva created Gosainkunda when he pierced a glacier with his trident to obtain water to quench his thirst after having swallowed some poison.   • DAY 12

    GOSAINKUNDA / THARE PATI (2360m)

    We continue over rugged trails and pass several other smaller lakes to the Thare Pati pass (4602m), and then we descend along a ridge to the tree line. Past beautiful waterfalls, through Juniper and Rhododendron forests. We descend to the huts of Thare Pati (8hrs). O/N in Tharepati at Teahouse Lodge or Tented Camp. (B/L/D)

  • DAY 13

    THARE PATI / GUL BHANYJANG (2130m)

    We drop steadily all day through Fir and Rhododendron forests and then through prickly-leaved Oak forests. We camp at the Tamang village of Gul Bhanjyang. This ridge walk provides excellent views of the mountains and the Helambu valley. O/N in Gul Bhanyjang at Teahouse Lodge or Tented Camp. (B/L/D)

  • DAY 14

    GUL BHANJYANG / CHISOPANI (2194m)

    Today's walk consists of gentle ups and downs following a ridge to camp just above Chisopai with excellent views of the Himalayan range from Manaslu to Everest. O/N in Chisopani at Teahouse Lodge or Tented Camp. (B/L/D)

  • DAY 15

    CHISAPANI / NAGARKOT-2300m

    Walk between the village and forest, continue our journey to Nagarkot 2300m above the sea level. This spot provides an excellent view of the sunset and Mount Everest can be seen on a clear day. O/N in Nagarkot at Tented Camp. (B/L/D)

  • DAY 16

    NAGARKOT / KATHMANDU

    We'll awake early to watch the spectacular dawn, the first rays of the sun firing the peaks a hellist red slowly lighting up the Himalayas from Kachenjunga and Everest in the Far East of Annapurna and Dwalagiri in the West. Afternoon, we'll drive back to Kathmandu. O/N in Kathmandu. (B/L/D)

  • DAY 17

    FREE DAY IN KATHMANDU

    After breakfast you're free in Kathmandu for shop and pick up some last minute souvenirs or rest etc...O/N in Kathmandu (B/L/D)

  • DAY 18

    DEPARTURE

    After breakfast free for you until time to leave the international airport for your final destination. (B)
