Muktinath Excursion Trek

Muktinath Excursion Trek is a one of famous pilgrimage center for Buddhist and Hindus. The shrines include a Buddhist Gompa and the Vishnu temple Jwala Mai. An old temple nearby shelter spring and natural gas jets, which provide Muktinath with the famous eternal flame. Jomsom is the only place along the Annapurna circuit, which is connected by air with Pokhara and Kathmandu. It is also the district headquarters of Mustang, which includes part of the legendary Mustang and the Muktinath Region. Trekking to Muktinath begins from Jomsom.

Our trails will be easy to go to along the Kaligandaki River and reach to village of Kagbeni, a Tibetan influenced settlement close to Lo-Manthang, the capital of what use to be the old principality of Mustang. From Kagbeni village the trail climbs steeply to rejoin the regular trial before Khingar is reached. A further climb brings you to Jharkot then Ranipauwa, the accommodation area of Muktinath (3,710m.), where we can see most impressive views of Mt. Dhaulagiri, Tukche, Thapa peak, Dhampus Peak, Nilgiri north and Tilicho Peak.

Amphu Labtsa Pass Peak Climbing

Mera peak(6,476m/21,246ft) and Island Peak (6,189m/20,305ft) are both highly sought after summits in their own right. Although geographically fairly close together, they are separated by the formidable mountain chain dividing the Hongu and Khumbu Valleys. This expedition provides a rare opportunity for climbers to attempt both peaks, linking them with a crossing of the difficult, yet stunning Amphu Labtsa Pass (5,780m/18,963ft). This has proved to be a very popular expedition as it provides a unique opportunity to visit one of the most beautiful and remote valleys in Nepal combined with a high altitude climbing programme, which takes participants through a progressive range of mountaineering skills. To give potential team members greater flexibility in planning their annual leave, we have departures in the spring (pre-monsoon) and in the autumn (post-monsoon).

We have extended this expedition by one day to a total of 30 days. This gives the leader flexibility in running the expedition and allows a greater margin for the vagaries of the weather and individual acclimatisation. It also provides time for a rest after crossing the Amphu Labtsa, so that batteries can be re-charged before Island Peak is attempted.

The approach to the mountain follows the Mera Peak trek up to Mera La and then to Baruntse base camp. (5,250m).
Normally, we establish two camps above the base camp in climbing Baruntse. The camp I is set up just below East Col. at an altitude of 5,700m and the camp II is on the South – East Ridge at a height of 6,420m. From the camp I, we cross East Col. and descend down through steep slopes. We then traverse a large snow plateau and move towards the bottom of the South – East Ridge. We then move through steeping slopes of the ridge to a small col, the site of the camp II at the height of 6,420m. From camp II, we climb steep snow slopes (45 degrees) and frequently pass a series of short steep steps of ice and snow until we reach the west side of the ridge. Then we passed through short sections of rock scrambling which leads to a marked cleft and ice cliff and getting over these leads to the easy and broader slopes and finally, to 7,129m, the summit. The descend is by the same route.

We pass through oak and rhododendron forests and even cross glacial moraine on our way to the Tamang village of Langtang. A little further up the valley is Kyangin Gompa, where we stop overnight and sample the local yak cheese. We pass through Nubamatang, nestled in a hidden valley, on our way up to view the glaciers, which mark the gateway into Tibet. Backtracking, we travel through Syabru and Sing Gompa to a high plateau, where the sacred lake Gosainkund is located. Parahawking in Nepal

Parahawking in Nepal is the art of training birds of prey to fly with Paragliders, it was developed and pioneered in 2001 here in Pokhara by Scott Mason and our team of experts. By combining Paragliding with the ancient art of Falconry, we are able to train birds of prey to fly with us, guide us to thermals and even perform aerobatic manoeuvres.

Eagles, Kites and Vultures are natural soaring birds, together with Paragliders they use thermals to fly long distances whilst conserving energy. Our trained birds are no different, they will utilise the thermals and guide us to them, then be rewarded in the air for their efforts.

The ultimate flying companion!

For anybody interested in birds of prey, this is truly an amazing experience.Choose your Parahawking experience:
1. Parahawking tandem flight
2. Parahawking filming flight
3. Sky Safari – NEW!
4. Parahawking solo experience (for licenced pilots only)
5. Falconry LessonsParahawking

The Parahawking Tandem flight is quickly becomming the new “must do” activity in Nepal. Parahawking is the art of training bids of prey to fly with paragliders; it was developed and pioneered in 2001 in Pokhara by our team of experts. By combining paragliding with the ancient art of falconry, we have trained birds of prey to fly with us, guide us to thermals and even perform aerobatic manoeuvres! Now you too can experience parahawking by taking a tandem flight with one of our trained birds. Marvel as the bird guides us through the skies and then call him to land on your gloved hand as we fly. We’ll even film the whole flight from our on-board cameras. A totally unique and unforgettable experience – sure to be the highlight of your trip to the beautiful Pokhara valley!

The Parahawking filming flight:

Another world first – Can you imagine paragliding in the Himalayas with a trained bird of prey and the bird filming your entire flight from a camera mounted on his back. It sounds unbelievable doesn’t it, well it’s not. For the first time ever you can have your entire Parahawking tandem flight filmed by Kevin and The Kev Cam. We take off early in the morning to ensure that we are the only gliders in the sky, this way Kevin will follow us all the way. We will then edit the movie and present you with a finished DVD of your flight. Kevin’s skills at aerial cimematography are amazing.

Sky Safari: “Share the sky” t-shirt)

Spend an entire day flying with birds of prey. A Sky Safari involves 3 very different Parahawking tandem flights with 3 of our birds. The morning flight will be with Brad, our energetic little male Black Kite. He will tie us up in knots as we chase him around the sky while the sun rises over the Himalayas. The second flight will be with Kevin, our cross country hero. Kevin will guide us to the best thermals and take us on a Parahawking adventure like you would never imagine. And lastly, the third and final flight of the day will be with Bob, our young Egyptian vulture. We will soar together over the calm waters of Lake Phewa as the sun drops behind the mountains. Then we land right outside Maya Devi, the home and birth place of Parahawking.

The parahawking solo experience (for pilots only):

As paraglider pilots, we are constantly searching for signs of lift which will enable us to stay up and keep flying. Quite often that sign will come in the form of a wild bird, an Eagle or Vulture, effortlessly soaring and climbing in a thermal. Now you can take one of our trained birds for a solo flight and allow him to guide you to the thermals. Spend a day in the hands of our experts learning and experiencing Parahawking. In the morning you will handle and become acquainted with our birds, then take a tandem flight with our instructor so you are familiar with the Parahawking procedures. In the afternoon you are ready to fly solo with only the bird as your guide. Another world first from the Parahawking pioneers and only available here in Nepal!

This experience is only available to licensed paraglider pilots.Falconry Lessons: From our beautiful home on the banks of Lake Fewa you can get up close and personal with some of Nepal’s native birds of prey.
